Yes. It carries the complete ESV text, with the study notes printed under the text on each page and the articles, maps and charts around it.
Which translation is it based on?
The English Standard Version, published by Crossway. Crossway describes the ESV as “essentially literal”. The ESV text was updated in 2016 and again in 2025; new printings carry the 2025 text as it rolls out.
Who wrote the notes?
A team of 95 contributors from nearly 20 denominations, under general editor Wayne Grudem and theological editor J. I. Packer. The notes are Crossway’s, not part of the ESV translation itself.
Is it word for word?
The base text, the ESV, is described by its publisher as “essentially literal”, emphasizing word-for-word accuracy. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel. The study notes are commentary and are not a translation.
Has the study Bible itself been revised?
