Licensing

Our authored layer is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Reviews remain their authors'. The export is CC BY. The scorer is open source.

Four kinds of material are on this site, and they carry four different licences. This page says which is which.

Our authored layer: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

The text we write is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International. That covers the spec sheet wording, the Disputes and context panels, the standing questions, the comparison pages, the choosers’ text, the guides, and these trust pages. You may copy and adapt it for non-commercial use if you credit Christian Rated, link to the page, and share your adaptation under the same licence. Trust pages offer their policy text as Markdown through the “This page as Markdown” link.

The facts on a spec sheet are facts, and facts are not ours. Verification status identifies researched and pending information; source links and retrieval dates appear when documented. Quote the source rather than us where you can. A link to a seller identifies where a thing is sold; it is not an endorsement, and whether it pays us is stated on the page.

Reviews remain their authors'

A review belongs to the person who wrote it. By publishing it here, an author gives Christian Rated a non-exclusive licence to display the review, to include its hash and its metadata in the public vote log, to show it in the export while it is published, and to quote it on comparison pages and in the “most helpful” excerpts with attribution. The author keeps every other right. We do not sell reviews, license them to anyone else, or claim them as our own. An author can withdraw a review at any time; the text comes down and the hashed event stays, as the privacy page explains.

Maker replies on the Disputes panel belong to the maker on the same terms.

The export: CC BY 4.0

The public vote log at /api/votes/export, the anchors at /api/anchors, the nightly snapshots, the transparency JSON, the scoring constants, and the monthly data dump of counted and uncounted responses, removals, freezes and disputes are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. You may use them for any purpose, including commercial, if you credit Christian Rated. The export contains pseudonyms and hashes, not names or review text; the terms of the privacy page still apply to any attempt to re-identify a person.

The scorer and the verification script: open source

The program that recomputes every share and meter from the export is open source, tagged by scoring version, in a public repository. The verification script at /static/verify.py is published with it under the same licence. The licence file in the repository is the authority on its terms. Anyone can run the scorer against the export and get the numbers on this site to the decimal; if they do not, that is a bug or a finding, and we want to hear about it.

Bible text and other quotations

Short quotations of Bible text in guides and comparisons follow each publisher’s stated permission limits, which are recorded on the translation’s spec sheet under “Licence and quotation”. Public-domain texts are marked as such. Names, logos and trademarks of listed products belong to their owners and are used only to identify the thing listed.

The brand

The Christian Rated name and mark are not covered by any licence on this page.
