Is it word for word?
The preface describes a revision in the King James tradition that puts the meaning of the text in simple, enduring English for worship; it does not use the word-for-word label. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel.
What text is it based on?
The Masoretic Text for the Old Testament, with footnoted corrections from the ancient versions, and an eclectic Greek text for the New Testament. The deuterocanonical books are included in the Catholic Edition.
Is it approved for Catholic use?
The Catholic Edition was prepared for use by Catholics by a committee of the Catholic Biblical Association of Great Britain. The publisher pages we fetched do not print the approval notice, so no imprimatur is recorded here.
Who translated it?
The Revised Standard Version Bible Committee of thirty-two scholars produced the RSV; a committee of the Catholic Biblical Association of Great Britain adapted it for Catholic use.
