The standing questions
Answered from the spec sheet and the positions above, never from the meters.
Is it word for word?
No, by the publisher’s own placement. The FAQ puts the BSB near the middle of the range from word-for-word to thought-for-thought, and keeps its interlinear and literal tiers for strict word-for-word reading. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel.
What text is it based on?
The Masoretic Text (Westminster Leningrad Codex and Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia) for the Old Testament, and the Berean Greek New Testament, built on the Nestle 1904 critical text, for the New Testament. Significant variants between the critical texts, the Byzantine text and the Textus Receptus are footnoted.
Are verses missing?
Some verses printed in the KJV, such as Acts 8:37, appear in footnotes marked TR rather than in the main text, because the BSB follows a critical Greek text. The text is complete by its own textual basis.
Who translated it?
A translation team from Bible Hub and Discovery Bible, under an advisory committee of six named editors, with public comment on the translation tables. The publisher says the committee is small compared with major translations.
Can I copy it?
Yes. The text was dedicated to the public domain on April 30, 2023. Attribution is appreciated but not required.
