Disputes and context
EditorialWe describe each dispute, attribute each position, and take no side.
The Textus Receptus and the 1769 text
KJV-only congregations hold the KJV, usually the 1769 text, as the standard English Bible, on the basis that the Textus Receptus preserves the original text. Translations from an eclectic Greek text place some of its verses in footnotes. Both positions are described, with sources, in the guide on textual basis.

The standing questions
Answered from the spec sheet and the positions above, never from the meters.
Which text do most printings carry?
The 1769 Oxford standard text. The 1611 first edition is reprinted for study and differs in spelling and in some readings.
Is it word for word?
Yes by the translators’ own description, in the English of 1611. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel.
Is it approved for Catholic use?
No. It has no imprimatur. Editions with the Apocrypha reprint the 1611 arrangement; that is not the same as Catholic approval.
