Verses in footnotes
Some verses printed in the Reina-Valera 1960, such as Acts 8:37, appear in NVI notes rather than the main text, because the NVI follows a different Greek text. Readers who hold to the Textus Receptus regard this as an omission; the publisher says these words are not in the oldest manuscripts and were added by later copyists, and that the NVI keeps them in the notes so readers can find them.

The standing questions
Answered from the spec sheet and the positions above, never from the meters.
Is the NVI accurate, and what does accuracy mean here?
“Accurate” means different things to different readers: close to the wording, close to the sense, or based on a particular Greek text. The NVI follows the NIV’s principles, between word-for-word and thought-for-thought, and follows the oldest Greek manuscripts. The disputes panel describes where readers disagree. We do not score accuracy.
Is it word for word?
No. The publisher says it follows the NIV translation principles, preserving the original wording where it can while taking account of Spanish usage. The literal-to-idiomatic meter above shows where readers place its feel.
What text is it based on?
The Hebrew and Greek originals, following the oldest manuscripts for the New Testament. The publisher’s pages name no printed edition.
Are verses missing?
Some verses printed in the Reina-Valera 1960 appear in notes instead of the main text, because the NVI follows a different Greek text. The text is complete by its own textual basis.
Is it approved for Catholic use?
No. It has the 66-book Protestant canon and no imprimatur. For Spanish editions with Catholic approval, see the Biblia de Jerusalén and the Biblia Latinoamérica.
Who translated it?
The Comité de Traducción Bíblica Internacional, a group of Latin American evangelical ministers and scholars sponsored by Biblica, led first by Luciano Jaramillo and later by Samuel Pagán. The New Testament came first, in 1979; the full Bible in 1999.
