The standing questions
Answered from the spec sheet and the positions above, never from the meters.
Which text do most printings carry?
The 1599 edition. Tolle Lege Press reprints it with modern spelling and the original notes and cross references; eBible.org hosts it in the original spelling. The 1560 first edition is reprinted in facsimile for study.
What are the notes?
Marginal study notes written by Reformation leaders, including John Calvin, to explain and interpret the text for the ordinary reader. Bible Gateway calls it history’s first study Bible. The notes are part of the edition, not of the translation.
Is it word for word?
The translators published no statement of method. Bible Gateway describes a translation from Greek and Hebrew manuscripts with a revision of Tyndale’s New Testament. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel.
Are verses missing?
No. The Received Text verses, such as Acts 8:37 and the longer 1 John 5:7, are in the main text, as in the KJV. Translations from an eclectic Greek text place some of them in footnotes; the guide on textual basis describes both positions.
Is it approved for Catholic use?
No. It has no imprimatur, and its notes were written by Protestant Reformers. The hosted texts have the 66-book canon.
