The standing questions
Answered from the spec sheet and the positions above, never from the meters.
Is it word for word?
No. The publisher’s principles are accuracy and clarity: vocabulary from a graded word list, modern measurements, and figures of speech translated by their meaning. The literal-to-idiomatic meter shows where readers place its feel.
What reading level is it?
Thomas Nelson publishes no figure. Christianbook’s version page gives an approximate grade 5 to 6 reading level.
What text is it based on?
The latest edition of the Biblia Hebraica with the Septuagint for the Old Testament, and principally the third edition of the United Bible Societies’ Greek text for the New Testament.
Are verses missing?
Some verses printed in the KJV, such as Acts 8:37, are set in brackets with a footnote, because the NCV follows an eclectic Greek text. The text is complete by its own textual basis.
Who translated it?
The World Bible Translation Center with a team of 50 Bible scholars and translators, some of whom had worked on the NIV, NASB and NKJV. Thomas Nelson now publishes it.
